Weather has been a passion of mine since I was a toddler. I remember hearing stories of myself standing in my crib in the middle of the night watching passing thunderstorms. When I was 7 years old I witnessed my first hurricane on a family trip to Myrtle Beach. Since then the weather has fascinated me in all shapes and forms.
Growing up in Southern Ontario in a small tobacco growing community, I've experienced my share of severe and unique weather. Summer months brought severe thunderstorms and a tornado hit our county almost every year. Winter brought snowstorms and snow squalls of the Great Lakes and ice storms that would bring a community to a stand still.
After getting my licence I started chasing storms. Inexperience led me all over the province chasing radar images that were really hit or miss. Now in my 20’s I have gotten more serious about my hobby and have delved into more forecasting and watching weather models to aid in finding severe weather patterns.
To my dismay, I have never seen a tornado in person. I am on a quest to film and photograph my first. I am now based in Alberta and hope to experience the fascinating fury this summer Though Southern Ontario plays host to more tornadoes in a year then the rest of Canada, the prairies offer much better filming conditions. The northen section of North America's “Tornado Ally” runs through my backyard, so when conditions concoct the "perfect" storm, my camcorder and I will be ready.
